A SWIFT code is a unique identification code assigned to a particular bank or branch, in a standard format knows as the
"Bank Identifier Code" [BIC code].

These codes are used when transferring money, and messages between banks.

The SWIFT code consists of 8 or 11 characters.

When 8-digits code is given, it refers to the primary office.
When 11-digit code is given, it refers to a branch of that office.
